EGODEATH’s Album ‘Make Sure It’s Dead’ Needs To Be About Their Music

Genre: thrash metal.

Location: Madison, WI-USA.

Well, well, well, look who just rolled out of the metal archives and decided to grace us with their presence – Egödeath, a three-piece thrash metal ensemble from Madison, Wisconsin. Formed in 2021, apparently with the sole mission of reminding us all what thrash metal felt like in the days when hair was big, and riffs were even bigger. Brace yourselves, folks, because this is Egödeath’s version of a sonic assault, a.k.a. their album ‘Make Sure It’s Dead.’

Now, ‘Make Sure It’s Dead’ sounds less like an album title and more like a checklist for anyone unfortunate enough to be caught in the crossfire of their auditory onslaught. Featuring tracks with charming names like ‘Closing Argument,’ ‘Wisco Beer Knight,’ ‘Of Blood And Wine,’ and, of course, the titular track ‘Make Sure It’s Dead.’ Because, you know, subtlety is for the weak, and Egödeath prefers to hit you over the head with their musical sledgehammer wielded by a cracked-out after-school detention reject.

Let’s talk about their self-description, shall we? A three-piece thrash metal band bringing an old-school vibe to the metal landscape. Using amps and sound to bring it to 11! Well, isn’t that just precious? It’s like they stumbled upon a Spinal Tap DVD and thought, “Yeah, let’s turn this up to 11, too!” Newsflash, Egödeath, turning it to 11 doesn’t magically make your thrash metal more revolutionary. It just makes it louder and dumber.

Now, ‘Closing Argument,’ the track that probably leaves you wanting to file a noise complaint. It’s fast, it’s furious, it’s aggressive – all the ingredients for a thrash metal cocktail. Or maybe a Molotov cocktail, depending on your perspective. ‘Wisco Beer Knight’ – because nothing says thrash metal like a title that sounds like it was generated by a random metal name generator. It’s like they threw together two things Wisconsinites love – beer and medieval imagery – and hoped for the best.

‘Of Blood And Wine,’ the kind of title that makes you wonder if they’re recounting a particularly brutal Dungeons & Dragons campaign or just trying to sound more profound than they actually are. And then there’s the title track, ‘Make Sure It’s Dead,’ because subtlety is for the weak, and Egödeath prefers to hit you over the head with their musical sledgehammer. Déjà vu? Maybe, but originality isn’t exactly their strong suit.

In conclusion, Egödeath seems to be on a mission to bring thrash metal back to its roots, whether you asked for it or not. ‘Make Sure It’s Dead’ might be their album title, but I’m left wondering if it’s a plea for mercy from anyone subjected to their particular brand of sonic assault. Madison, Wisconsin, known for its cheese and now, apparently, for Egödeath’s cheesy thrash metal.

Hold on to your eardrums, folks, because Egödeath is kicking off 2024 with an event aptly named the “Big Ol’ Shitshow” Saturday, February 10th at Vic’s Place in Harvard, IL. Yes, you read that right – Shitshow. It’s like they’re embracing the chaos before the audience even walks through the door. So, if you’re in the mood for a musical dumpster fire, head on down to Harvard, IL, and witness Egödeath’s sonic spectacle. Just remember to bring earplugs; you’re going to need them.
